Students will learn in the lecture rooms, skills labs, and simulation labs equipped with patient care stations, simulating actual hospital healthcare facilities. Skills will emphasize the assessment of clients to identify actual and potential health problems, select, plan and implement nursing interventions, restore, rehabilitate or maintain client health, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, communication and teaching in achieving goals. Graduates will be eligible to take the NCLEX for Registered Nurses and work as entry-level BSN-prepared Registered Nurses. An advanced placement option is available for Licensed Vocational Nurses.

  • Attend a personal interview with an Admissions Representative
  • Must be 17 years of age or older

  • Submit proof of immunization – One step PPD, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B

  • Complete the Online Readiness Survey with a score of 75% or more
  • Proof of Basic Life Support as Health Healthcare Provider certification by the American Heart Association
  • Submit a completed health history and physical exam signed by the student and health care provider
  • Clear a criminal background check and drug screen

California State University – Bakersfield

The prelicensure BSN program at California State University Bakersfield is designed for students with no prior experience in nursing. They will complete one year of prerequisite courses and three years of focused nursing courses. The prerequisite coursework must be completed before entry is granted to the nursing program. The curriculum is devised to provide students with the skills they need to function as a nurse generalist in acute and long-term facilities. Graduates will receive a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing. They will be qualified to apply for a CA Public Health Nursing Certified, prepared to test for the CA RN license, and prepared to enter a master’s program in the field of nursing. New students are admitted once per year in the fall.
